Damishu Animal Welfare (DAW) is created to bring awareness to the public in Ethiopia and reduce the human-inflicted suffering of all animals. Protecting an animal's welfare means providing for its physical and mental needs which DAW aims to establish. Animals are often exposed to great pain and suffering and the lack of humane educating system makes it worse. DAW focuses on increasing awareness to treat animals with care and compassion. We aim to educate the society to always treat animals with kindness and respect. While the proper treatment of animals is a very old question in the Western World, it is still an uncommon subject to raise and discuss in the third world.
Damishu Animal Welfare is named after my Grandmother Damitu(Damishu) who was and still an avid animal lover. Her compassion and care for animals has always impressed and touched my heart as a child. I grew up seeing her feeding stray dogs on the street, bringing home puppies thrown on the street mostly female puppies as several people choose to not raise a female dog out of fear of her becoming pregnant.
The goal of DAW is to create awareness and reduce the suffering of animals from Ethiopia. DAW believes educating the society is the first step to help minimize animal abuse and cruelty. Treating animals with care and compassion will lead to a better and humane society. DAW also encourages and works to have an Animal Welfare law in Ethiopia that will prohibit animal abuse and cruelty.
